Ask Sallie Krawcheck: What has marriage taught you about money?
What has marriage
taught you about money? Oh, my gosh. So … I was in love. I was
young. We were … in love, and we got married, and we were young, and … he managed the money because that’s what “good Southern girls” had their husbands do. And he … had an affair
with a friend of mine, and … oh, it was so bad. It was so bad. So the lesson I learned is, take care of your own money. We women live longer than men do. Half of marriages end in divorce. That means the majority of us — the vast majority of us — die single. So getting your arms around
your money at an early age is a smart thing to do. I don’t care how much in love you are.
