Japan-based haka group join in on Ainu Thanksgiving celebrations

The Ainu people of Japan are currently celebrating
their thanksgiving with a gathering of its people
to celebrate who they are. Also celebrating with them
is kapa haka Nga Hau E Wha whose members are also helping
with the revitalisation of the Ainu culture. Rapaera Tawhai has more. An exchange of song and culture. The Ainu culture has dwindled
and only a few know the language, that’s why these Maori are helping
to revitalise their culture by showcasing ours. Cotter has been living in the north,
in Sapporo, teaching Maori studies
at the local university. He also helps Ainu there as well. Other than that, it’s good for them to gather
together from all over Japan. It showcases the saying, if kindness is shown
then kindness is received. Rapaera Tawhai, Te Karere.
